A 67 year old woman who has been short of breath for the past 2 days. Has a medical history of high blood pressure, COPD, type 2 diabetes, and a previous Transient Ischemic Attack. She is awake and fully alert, is breathing faster than normal 24 breaths/min, has a heart rate of 92 bpm, and her oxygen level is 92%, which is mildly low. Considering the patient age, COPD, and new shortness of breath, ER medical staff would typically consider causes such as a COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, or another respiratory or cardiac condition, and investigate further based on the full clinical picture. Ambulatory EMT here.
