The Caliphs used to have a load over their shoulders as their duties was not only with their people but with Allah. Neglect of political/social duties could also compromise their Akhira. I guess it’s not about happy days as such but about acceptance with what God has decreed for us… that’s why in islamic world is so important to be aware of Allah’s mercy and favours-even if it’s not what we, as humans, wished- due He(swt) Knows better.
