@nautiluslive: We spotted this #bigfinsquid (genus #Magnapinna) with #ROVLittleHercules around 5,400 meters (17,716 feet) deep on the #abyssalplain in the waters of the Mariana Archipelago. Rarely seen on camera, this marine invertebrate is recognized by its distinct morphology, including perpendicular arms and tentacles that resemble elbows. Scientists understand the bigfin may be the deepest-dwelling of all #squid, as it’s been seen even below 6,000 meters in the hadal zone.

its a mini magnapinna! theyre so rare only 20 have ever been seen on camera. their tentacles can reach up to 26 feet long! and fun fact, all the recorded ones we've seen are believed to be JUVENILES, meaning they arent even fully grown yet!

So.. the magnapinna is actually very strong to still hold intact in the depth pressure but it moves very gently. Allahuakbar, the strength in its visibly gentle beautiful movement
