I think when Jean Grey took control of Peter’s mind to keep him alive and breathing after he’s shot she goes deep into his consciousness. In doing so, she doesn’t just experience who he is but she also sees his memories of MJ and Ned and their shared history of how close they used to be. out of gratitude since Peter saved her life she decides to actively send those memories back to MJ and Ned essentially “planting” them back into their minds to break the spell.
