I am from Louisiana. I went to the Angola rodeo expecting to see people who actually knew how to ride the bulls. I was sadly disappointed the inmates did not know what they were doing and there was a line of ambulances waiting to take them to the hospital. They even did this thing where they put $100 on the bottom of a bull and inmates had to try to get it off it was the most disgusting dehumanizing thing I have ever witnessed and I never went back. Sad thing is the rodeo often sells out here

everyone talks a lot about gulags and the massive death tolls and rates of incarceration (understandably so, it was horrifying) but I have to wonder just how many people have disappeared into America's prison industrial complex for a lifetime of forced labour - and how many people have died as a result. we won't ever know until the US itself falls or opens up its archives, which is the only real reason we know any concrete numbers about the Soviet gulags.

Everyone remember - the American penitentiary system was developed to create slavery after it was abolished (a book I highly recommend is called Chain Gang All Stars a fictional book that takes a Roman coloseum mentality and superimpose it on a dystopian American prison system)
