I was diagnosed with diabetes at age 42. After many medications and because they assumed I was type 2, I went into ICU in 2015 with Respitory failure and DKA, almost dying; they told me I am a Type 1 diabetic. I am now 55 years old with an insulin pump. We T1's fight for our lives daily. I work a full time job and most people don't even know I'm a diabetic unless I tell them. People have no clue what someone goes through. 🫶❤️🙏

My glucose is high. 158 yesterday (fasting). Since 2024 I’ve asked for my A1c to be checked before I get my blood draws. The answer is no everytime. The excuse this time was “only if you’re a diabetic.” I said my glucose has been high the last 4 draws. I want to SEE if I’m diabetic. 5th blood draw is the highest it’s ever been. 2024 I was 128 and 133.

Doctors must start testing blood sugar at initial visit - for everyone. It's a simple small finger twinge from a tiny lancet needle. They then put the sample into a tiny portable BG monitor. Takes seconds! This almost happened to my son at 8 years old. I insisted they test his blood sugar before we left the pediatrician's office with another diagnosis of, whelp we don't know what it is. My son is 26 now and I still get so mad when I hear doctors are still being lazy about this. 😳

My daughter at 6 wasn’t diagnosed til I brought brought bit up. Before that i brought her in for lethargy, and recurring vaginal redness. They said bushes just not wiping good. Turns out it’s bc she was urinating so much and also so much sugar in her urine.
