My mother actively never liked me. Even in elementary school. She still doesn’t. I gave up trying a long time ago. And yeah…. My default is to assume people don’t like me.

My dad told me he didn't like me because I was "always on your grandma's side," meaning my maternal grandmother. It only seemed like I was on her side because I lived with her. Funnily enough, grandma told me I was "too much like your father to love." She did love my little sister, though, because she looked more like mom. I was 8 at this time, mind you. 🤷♀️

I think part of the problem too is conditional acknowledgement. "I messed up, BUT BECAUSE YOU [insert bs]." Or an acknowledgement with the immediate assumption that resolves everything. "I APOLOGIZED WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT" while still living the same narcissistic and manipulative behavior loud and proud.
