@patrick_hale5: I’ve spent most of my life building companies, negotiating deals, and sitting at tables with powerful people. At those tables, I witnessed the same behavior countless times: Someone would publicly question another person’s credibility, hoping to make themselves appear smarter and more powerful. Inexperienced people immediately become defensive. But the moment you start defending yourself, you give the other person permission to keep questioning you. Real power isn’t found in raising your voice. It comes from calmly returning the burden of proof to the person making the accusation. When they ask, “Are you sure about that?” Say, “I’m certain. But I’m curious—what makes you question it?” When they say, “I don’t think you understand this.” Say, “Then walk me through your understanding.” When they claim, “That isn’t accurate,” without providing evidence: Say, “Show me what I’m missing.” And when they dismiss you by saying, “I’ve never heard that before”: Say, “Then this may be a good learning opportunity for you.” Don’t argue. Don’t over-explain. And don’t rush to prove yourself. Stay calm and place the responsibility for proving the claim back where it belongs. If they have evidence, they’ll show it. If they don’t, everyone at the table will recognize the bluff. Remember: Real authority never rushes to defend itself. — Patrick Hale #mindsetmotivation #growthminset #usatiktok🇺🇸
