Dealing with widespread paresthesia from excessive b12 supplementation without a deficiency. I was told by a Neurologist it can take more than a year to feel better! 😫

My neurologist said you can’t take to much vitamin B-12 the excess goes right out with your urine. The other vitamin B’s can be to much but not B-12

My B12 registered over 2000. Only measurable issue was high iron. Once I quit the B12, my iron went back to normal.

Gosh. We can’t win!! What are we suppose to do! B12 helps with the tingling but too much brings on tingling. Vitamins are so confusing!

All this is showing me is how much misinformation misunderstanding and improper usage of medications is going on. Over B12. Your posts are normally good but his one is all over the place and way too confusing for anyone to understand. So many things wrong in the comments. I genuinely worry for people on this one. They need to understand B12 a lot more not just take handfuls of vitamins which fyi not all vitamins have the same ingredients in each pill, facts! One could have a 100% of the med one could have 5%, companies use fillers. Look it up!

I have issues with most vitamins so I always just half everything I’m supposed to take. Or take every other day.

My vitamin B 12 levels hit a 1800 and the marker said up to 900 is optimal, so I’m double of where I should be and I’m not even sure where I’m getting it because I’m not even supplementing..

Went on a trip, six day in the trip the top of my foot swelled red stinging. Day 10 my feet had sharp radiating pain in my toes difficult to walk. After the trip I had sharp pain, needle, radiating through my toes and my fingers, severe pain back of neck. Called my primary doctor got who got me in a week later. Put me on prednisone and did bloodwork. My B12 was at 1505 which is high. Dr doesn’t think that’s the problem. she suggest to see a Rheumatologist. I’m unable to get into a Rheumatologist for three months. The pain is so excruciating. I was unable to to walk or grasp anything. The prednisone worked and gave me relief, but then I had the side effects of the prednisone so then I had to stop. The tingling in my fingers and toes and pain in the back of my neck returned. I had stopped taking B12. I emailed my neurologist with no response, emailed my endocrinologist for maybe possible thyroid issues. She ran blood work, but my T3 and T4 are fine but didn’t run any other test. I only thing that seems to find relief is drinking my beet, apple lemon ginger, coconut water. So confused and perplexed. I am not diabetic, it doesn’t seem like a regular flare for rheumatoid arthritis.

If you take B12 orally or inject it, your numbers will be off. I actually had normal B12 blood levels but a functional B12 deficiency. You also need to make sure you have enough folate for B12 to work right. Paradoxical reactions are a thing too, when you start B12 therapy, you actually feel worse before you feel better.
