We rebuild tons of both fuel systems. Both have their places. The black eye for PPumps is that most users can’t tune them correctly. But in their defense, they are harder to tune. Especially the 13s on the street. Common Rails are coming on strong but dinosaurs 🦖 will never die!

comparing old tech to new tech. the computer will always work better and be easier but nothing beats the hands on experience of a p7100

Common rails still getting smoked in sled pulling trucks and tractors

As someone who owns both and is a die hard 12v guy. I'm glad there's still advancements for 12v's. Will they ever perform as good as a common rail, NO( except in sled pulling) .Will they always be fun to drive/sled pull/ still pull loads, yes. I love my new to me 6.7 but I also love to drive my 12v, honestly probably more than my 6.7.

idk, if it makes horsepower.. im a fan. Mechanical for me has to be either bone stock or if it makes big power, it’s for off road use only like sled pulling and such. Commonrail is best of both worlds but good lord the price tag that comes with horsepower parts…

I’ve got a common rail truck and I’ve been messing with the tune trying to get the pedal feel of a p-pump truck, what should I do to help?

You’re not wrong… but can we argue the sigma pump? Or even the h1000? One has proven mass power. the other urban has been playing with

I’m tossing around the idea of common rail swapping my 99 truck and I’ve had a couple people say p pump but for serious power and drive ability you can’t go wrong with a common rail.

you guys spend way to much time making little pickups go almost as fast as a $1,500 motorcycle.
its strange to me

I would like to see internally compounded injectors for the Cummins CR application. I don't think there is enough room in the overhead for that size injector structure

Just hang the housing of a 7100 off the back of a cp3, yeah still a Ppump 😂

I own both. each has their place. if I had to pick one to keep forever it's a common rail. I do like the stupid simple of the mechanical.

I mean that technology has been around for years in tons of OEM’s it’s just getting trickled into the Cummins powered trucks. In-line pumps will always have there place in the industry just the spotlight has been on common rails for quite awhile now for good reason. I truly believe the vast majority of people don’t have half a leg to stand on to comment on the downfalls of mechanical injection. Both will make power, both take deep pockets but one suffers greatly in the user friendly/ drivability department compared to the other.

I built a big P pump setup years ago and that thing was a dog doing anything other than 3000+ rpm pulls. I love how angry they sound but a CR is so much better to drive with power

I like both, I think p pumps builds are cooler in general because they're more unique, but you're right for the same amount of effort you're making more horsepower and you've got better drivability with a common rail. as far as the top end 4,000 plus horsepower stuff, I have no idea I've never built anything even close to that
