they were basically guaranteed to win the asian pop award, at the expense of a win in any major category, bc this new ‘award’ deliberately segregates artists based on their language and race so they’re not allowed to compete with their white and western peers. it is a platitude and the same thing that was done to bad bunny, beyonce, and the numerous Black artists pigeonholed into r&b categories every year. you can hate bts all you want but standing up to actual institutional racism is objectively a very good thing

I'm so proud of BTS 💜💜💜 I dont care if they sing in English or Korean they are global artist's whose lyrics and message resonates with fans all over the world. Those are the types of artist's who deserve to be rewarded. music should be appreciated for what it is and not categorized by an artist's ethnicity.

Same problem as the Academy Awards. As soon as someone the big studios and labels don't like or can't profit from gets nominated, they invent new categories to shunt them into to free up the big awards.
