I have to admit, a year ago, posts like this would have really triggered me. After going through my own experiences and learning about unhealthy attachment styles, trauma, and relationship dynamics, I see things differently now. Years ago, I was in a relationship with someone who actually sought me out. Strangely enough, he was a witch. He practiced spell work, spoke Latin, and lived not far from Salem. He was also the first person who truly awakened me spiritually. I loved him on a soul level, but I never became attached to him in an unhealthy way. It broke my heart when he turned on me and left, but that experience taught me one of the greatest lessons of my life. Sometimes people enter your life to awaken you, not necessarily to stay. Watching Alys and Aemond, the first thing I thought was that she was manipulating him into staying. I can’t help but wonder whether she’s comforting him while slowly keeping him emotionally tied to her. Yes, she helped him when he was at his lowest. At the same time, I also don’t believe anyone should keep another person from walking away if they’re ready to leave. Aemond doesn’t exactly know what a healthy relationship looks like. Between his upbringing and everything he’s been through, he’s carrying a lot of emotional wounds. In a strange way, I think meeting Alys has forced him to confront parts of himself he’s never had to face before. Whether you believe in soulmates, twin flames, or neither, one lesson has stayed with me throughout my life: love is not possession. If someone wants to leave, let them go.
