At the time, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security told the Los Angeles Times that the raid outside the Prop 50 event was focused on enforcing the law, not on Newsom. But the actual motive had nothing to do with safety, as shown by the agent’s observations, Newsom said Wednesday, citing the deposition and other filings in the case.
