When I was 7/8 yrs old my dad gave me a scrap of paper with directions on how to get from our house at Pharmacy and Ellesmere to the Beaches, where I was to meet him and not be late lol

Alone as in no parents, but with a friend? 13-14. Alone as in truly alone? 15-16. The TTC is not what it used to be tbh.. it’s sketchy AF and even as an adult now, I see adults mistreating kids. I don’t even feel comfy on it alone as an adult, with the way many men stare… and there are so many people who get assaulted. I’m all for teaching kids independent, but I personally don’t feel that the ttc is the best place to do that fully alone until teen years - note that this is due to the world we live in now, and back in the day it was much safer and the answer would have been younger

In 2004 i was 11yrs old taking the streetcar then bus to middle school. My daughter is 11 and i let her take the bus short distances. Shes aloud to walk to the park with friends and was walking back to forth alone to school this year. Not sure how comfortable i am with her taking ttc for longer distances yet due to her adhd & anxiety but in the next year or so hopefully ill be more comfortable with her being a bit more independent. She has a cellphone and i can track her on it so that helps.
