if i lose weight, it's lost fat; if I gain weight, its fluid retention. Gorl. we've been here so many times.

I have both as well. Stopping exercise is a bad idea and an excuse. Instead try elevating your legs and watch the sodium. Exercise has nothing to do with it. In fact the movement helps. You sitting so much is the worst thing to do!

Followed your advice. Did the research. Multiple sources say compression garments and lymphatic massages are best, NOT to stop exercising.

Never have I heard that exercising causes more fluid retention long term. Even with your conditions (I’ve done research), the swelling would be temporary. Doing the movement you are doing should improve the swelling since you are contracting muscles and vessels. Those contractions get your lymphatic system draining. Push through. Pain is temporary. P.s. I’ve lost 178 pounds

Exercising and sitting causes retaining more fluid? I’m genuinely confused on how it works lol

okie dokie. so. physical exercise helps to stimulate your muscles which helps with the movement of lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic system. meaning it helps to move said fluid away from swollen areas thus reducing the swelling and built up fluid retention. it’s a great thing that you’re getting more movement into your daily routine, however, if there is fluid retention it’s not from you exercising. the other things you mentioned like sitting or not moving for long periods of time would potentially cause your body to retain fluid. does that make sense? moving and not moving can’t both cause retention. they’re not going to exist at the same time. definitely stick to your added daily movement/exercise and it will help everything

lymphedema and fluid retention generally are not reasons to stop exercising. In fact, regular, appropriately paced movement is an important part of managing lymphedema because muscle contractions help move lymph fluid.

AMBER DO NOT TAKE A BREAK FROM THE EXERCISE. Do. NOT. Take a break from moving you will NOT get back up. Do not derail your progress. Lower your sodium and continue to MOVE

Girl noooo!!!! Get some compression socks and keep going! The fluid isn't going to just "excape" with you doing nothing.

Makes no sense to stop exercising. Once you start again, the same thing will happen. The point is to push through it

Girl don't worry about a 1lb gain! If you stuck to your calories once the swelling goes down again you'll be looking at a double loss in a week! I average losing 2lb a week but if I'm swollen I gain 1lb or maintain. But week after I'll lose 5lb x

I wouldn’t stop your exercise! The scale will go up and down due to the edema so you need to keep moving regardless.

If you stop exercising it’s the first step in going back to the beginning. It’s an excuse. Keep moving your body or you’re just going to repeat your cycle.

Movement and muscle contraction are actually the primary ways the body pumps lymphatic fluid out of the limbs. Stopping exercise will actually make the fluid retention worse over time, not better. Please do more research on this. Exercise is a good thing ❤️
