The processing order for Australian skilled visas has just changed. Ministerial Direction 119, signed 24 July 2026, sets a new priority order covering the 482 Skills in Demand, 186, 189, 190, 191, 494 and other skilled visas. Priority order: (1) defence and law enforcement, onshore; (2) defence and law enforcement, offshore; (3) healthcare, teaching and construction, onshore; (4) all other onshore; (5) all other offshore, lowest. Based on the Department's own website for the Subclass 186, offshore general applicants are currently processing July 2024 lodgements. Under Direction 119, every new onshore application now goes ahead of every new offshore one. If you are onshore: plan your pathway to PR now. If you are offshore: speak to a registered migration agent. You could be waiting a long time, and you may need a strategy to get onshore sooner. Individual circumstances vary.
