My therapist taught me something amazing. My ex was the love of my life, but the man I fell in love with died many years ago. My love was Man’s-Name 1.0 and the cruel person that appeared many years later was Man’s-Name 2.0. I miss 1.0 deeply, but the 2.0 that I share custody with does NOT have that same affection…it helped me grieve the man I used to know.

Thank you for modeling not losing yourself in his betrayal. So much living can be lost in being caught up in what he did. It is so hard to explain how much what he did is not worth the parts of you that have to be sacrificed to maintain that level of bitterness and anger. Grief yes. Pain yes. Hurt yes.
