@eco_explained: The dodo bird’s extinction was a direct result of human exploitation. They were incredibly slow and unafraid of humans, which made it easy for settlers on the island of Mauritius to hunt them as prey. Settlers further destroyed their habitats through clearing forests for agriculture and settlement. Compiled, these actions drove the Dodo birds to extinction. Let this be a clear reminder of the consequences of human negligence for the environment. Sumatran Tiger: ~400 left in the wild. Critically Endangered. Northern White Rhino: ~2 left in the wild, both females. Functionally extinct. Pyrenean Ibex: ~0 left in the wild. Extinct since 2000. Vaquita: ~10 left in the wild. Critically Endangered. Each is being driven to extinction/already extinct due to habitat destruction. It is essential that we remember the tragic story of the Dodo bird and not repeat the same mistake. #savetheplanet #nature #animals #climatechange #fyp
