Security cameras captured the pair travelling about 300 metres from their residence before their movements could no longer be traced. CCTV also showed another motorcyclist appearing to follow them. Police later identified a Thai suspect and searched an area near his home, where officers recovered the siblings’ motorcycle after it had been dismantled and buried. The discovery has significantly widened the investigation. Local residents have reportedly told investigators the area is associated with routes allegedly used by criminal networks trafficking people across the border into Myanmar, where scam compounds have operated. Authorities have not publicly confirmed that the siblings were kidnapped or trafficked, and the investigation remains ongoing. Social media posts and some reports have speculated the Russians may have been abducted and taken to a scam centre. However, there is currently no official evidence confirming that claim, and police have not announced a motive or disclosed what happened to the missing pair. The case has drawn comparisons to previous incidents involving foreign nationals forced to work in scam compounds in Myanmar, including a Belarusian victim who was reportedly killed after being trafficked there.
