He can drive that car for up to 2years without much cost... BMWs have become very very fuel efficient. The only risk he will have is the cost of replacing tires. I'd say he should enjoy it for at lease 12months. Take good care of it, keep the mileage low. Then sell it and get something smaller and practical for him.
