Additional notes: During my first round of therapy I was on antidepressants for almost a year which helped a decent amount, I had never felt true joy before I went on it. But it also had some difficult side effects. Vivid dreams about past trauma and excessive sweating. I was also admitted to an institution in 2023 for three hours. (I begged to go home as they wouldn't adapt to my issues or customize anything. No gradual exposure or building trust) After I quit therapy the last time in 2025, I've been doing self help which has helped more than anything I've ever done in therapy. If I get very overwhelmed and feel backed into a corner, I might scream or run away (fight or flight) I can freeze in conversation and struggle to get words out of my mouth. If I'm in public and get anxious, I will look at the floor until my neck hurts. I usually avoid eye contact when outside as well and I have to consciously think about when to make eye contact in conversation. I'm really bad at setting boundaries and they usually get stepped on when I do. The thing with avpd also is that it's heavily under-researched. It's a disorder you may or may not be

I usually avoid eye contact when outside as well and I have to consciously think about when to make eye contact in conversation. I'm really bad at setting boundaries and they usually get stepped on when I do. The thing with avpd also is that it's heavily under-researched. It's a disorder you may or may not be "cured" from. The goal is rather to learn how to manage the symptoms well enough to function somewhat "normally"... But I often experience that everyone expects me to get completely cured within weeks or months and say I don't try hard enough when the reality is they don't know me well enough to know how hard I actually try. Nobody wants to live like this. #MentalHealth #avoidantpersonalitydisorder #avpd #chronicillnessawareness
