Social anxiety isn’t necessarily “I can’t be around lots of people.” It’s about fear of being judged, scrutinised, embarrassed or negatively evaluated in social situations. That means someone’s difficulties can vary massively depending on what they’re doing.
At a concert, you can be surrounded by 80,000 people while barely socially interacting with any of them. You’re essentially anonymous in a crowd, everyone’s focused on the performer, you can go with someone you trust, and nobody expects you to speak to strangers or perform socially.
Compare that with work: talking to customers or colleagues, answering questions unexpectedly, dealing with managers, making phone calls, attending meetings, handling conflict and knowing that your performance is being evaluated. For someone with social anxiety, that can actually be much harder than standing among thousands of strangers at a concert. Education is needed anyone can go on tik tok and say anything
