You do not need more plyometric exercises. You need to know WHY you’re doing them. I could give you hundreds of plyometric exercises that could potentially make you more explosive. That’s what most athletes think they need. More drills. More variations. More exercises that look fast, explosive, and athletic on Instagram. But the exercise isn’t the answer. The system is. You need to understand when, why, and how a specific plyometric fits alongside your strength training, speed work, conditioning, and the adaptation you’re trying to create during that phase. Let’s say I have an athlete who is already strong and powerful but struggles to be reactive and quick off the ground. I’m not just throwing box jumps into their program because they’re an “explosive exercise.” I’m looking at their limiting factor. Stretch shortening cycle efficiency. Ankle stiffness and strength. Ground contact times. Elastic qualities. Then I’m selecting and progressing plyometrics specifically designed to attack those limitations. Maybe that means more extensive plyometrics. Maybe it means more repetitive and recycling based contacts. Maybe the exercises actually look LESS advanced than what you’ve been doing. That’s what specific training actually looks like. Anyone can throw five plyometrics into a workout and call it a power day. That takes zero knowledge. Knowing what the athlete needs, choosing the right stimulus, progressing it appropriately, and layering it into the rest of their training is where coaching starts. And that’s probably why you’re not seeing the progress you want. You’re training with hopes and desires instead of a system. If you’re done with random workouts, constantly swapping exercises, and only training the things you’re already good at, it’s time to follow an actual system. Join the Peak Performance Program through the link in my bio. I’ll see you on the inside. #athleteworkout #plyometricstraining #explosivetraining #strengthandconditioning
