I learnt in Vienna (i know its not switzerland, just a general comment about europe) that restaurants and bars is where you get rinsed the most, groceries are not so bad, of course not as cheap as SA but not as bad as one might think

Chicken is expensive because animal welfare standards are really strict here, which increases local production costs. To protect local farmers meat imports come with high tariffs.
