I almost never opened The Timeless Principles of Life by Aaron Friedman and honestly that thought alone stresses me out now.

“What do you have to say for yourself?” Tries to answer, then comes, “Don’t talk back to me!” Gone quiet and disconnected. Great post, thank you.💙

Aini's Anecdotes :
Emotional regulation only works when we delve deep enough to understand the underlying values we are compromising on. Until we are able to critically self-reflect, we will find ourselves in the same situations over and over again.

and for those of us who stayed true to ourselves. we were labeled as too much or used as the scape goat or worse yet a Bit*". but really we were authentic and knew exactly how we felt

I agree with you to some degree. I was raised through the 60s and 70s and often times was told to stop crying. I was not allowed to express my anger, especially to my parents so I grew up as a young adult cry baby now That’s bad thing. but now I think emotional regulation and control is what’s needed today.

Agreed. From a young age humans are unknowingly conditioned into their environments, their family’s patterns & culture, their caregivers’ perception of reality. Traumas are passed on through genetics and nurture. Instinctive reactions to the world and others are adopted, mimicked and considered their sole function of survival by the child through no conscious choice. It’s only later when there’s awareness of self, genuinely, that this cycle of thought gets broken, rewritten and chosen based on individuality.

I was told as a kid, stop crying or I give you a reason to cry. I rarely cry now ever.

You’re so right 🥺 it was always okay for everyone else in my family to express themselves but I was told to be “seen and not heard”, “self praise is no honour” and don’t stand out, stay small and quiet. As a 59 year old woman I no longer care and finally live my life as I please.
