The world's most iconic approach! ✈️🇭🇰Flying the legendary Kai Tak (VHHX) Runway 13 Checkerboard approach on MSFS 2024. Rate this landing from 1 to 10! 👇 #msfs2024 #microsoftflightsimulator #flightsimulator #kaitak #vhhx #aviation #pilot #landing #checkerboardapproach #hongkong #flightsim #aviationgeeks #fyp #foryou The Legendary Story of Kai Tak (VHHX):Opened in 1925 and officially closed on July 6, 1998, Hong Kong’s former international airport became world-famous as one of the most challenging and dangerous airports in aviation history. Its infamous Runway 13 required a unique visual maneuver known as the Checkerboard Approach. Pilots had to fly directly toward a hill marked with a giant red-and-white grid, then execute a bank-steep 47° turn at a mere 300 feet (90 meters) above the ground. Aircraft skidded right over the rooftops and TV antennas of the densely populated Kowloon City neighborhood, often battling severe crosswinds. With a single runway squeezed between mountains and the harbor, Kai Tak reached full capacity and was finally retired in 1998, replaced by the modern Chek Lap Kok International Airport (VHHH).
