@reel.takes: Replying to @katembto Anthropic has destroyed millions of books in the 2020’s, after using them to train Claude. In an era that’s bringing attacks on public education and broadcasting, we need to think hard about what’s actually happening. The end of Christoper Nolan’s Odyssey addresses all of this directly, and it’s worth giving some thought. #theodyssey #books #BookTok #movies #film
Mi primer encuentro con Pride And Prejudice fue a través de Wishbone ❤️

It’s embarrassing to admit that I never really, on my own, read a book outside of a school assignment. I decided to change earlier this year. While it’s hard to focus it’s really entertaining, and now I’m 3 books down starting the count of monte cristo later this month.

Dan, have you ever read Fahrenheit 451? It feels like its comments on accelerationism are very important now.

Destroying books to put through an AI chatbot. We are a couple years away from literally being exactly like Fahrenheit 451.

I used to be such a huge reader as a kid but as I’ve gotten older I found myself reading less and less books, narrative ones at least. Start of this year I decided to get back into it. Two books down (Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights) now I’m reading Blood Meridian and loving it

When I was in high school, they added a Mythology class and it was incredible. Our teacher was really passionate and encouraged differing opinions. Best class I ever had. They do not offer it anymore 😔

It’s insane the amount of people my age who don’t read at all these days. I’m 25, and most of the people I know haven’t read through a full book since college or high school .

The dune movies got me to read the books and I’ve been hooked on reading since. Some all time great stories that seem hidden in books nowadays

It’s scary how this tech really does make you stupider, and how fast it does so. I’ve got two going on three degrees, and these days even I have trouble reaching for words or phrasing sentences in the way I want that I normally would have gotten right off the cuff. I don’t tend to read much these days because I’m so busy, but I’m trying to work more of it in because I can’t lose my brain like this.

I feel like the mandatory reading in a lot of education systems is to blame for people not reading on their own anymore

Wishbone was and still is the best way to introduce the classics to kids! My nephews loved the episodes we watched.

Yes the classics are being highlighted but also contemporary books as well. Incidents Around the House is the basis for Other Mommy and lemme tell you the waitlist for at my library is at least 6 months. something I enjoy is the resurgence of bookclubs. in Houston, there's multiple clubs for different genres as well as different emphasis on independent bookstores. we're still fighting

Man, you’re always one step ahead of me lol 😂 I’m not generally one to make video requests, especially about depressing topics like this, but I found out about this last night my plan for today was to ask you and some other creators on the next video y’all posted to talk about Anthropic and Project Panama, and what they’re doing to books. I figured it would interest you greatly and you could help get the word out to more people, bc no one’s talking about it

I never knew they were literally scanning books and destroying them in the process. Sounds like something you’d see a cartoon villain do 😭

Wishbone is 🤌🏻 I really wish I could find it somewhere to show my daughter. She’s already into Reading Rainbow and Magic School Bus. This would be the cherry on top.

It is also sad to see people finally picking up and reading books only to not understand the message or think more deeply about what the book is trying to say. Unless the message is spelled out to them, it’ll continue to fly over their heads…
