I always see the “well I don’t want to go to jail” comments from tough guys in these comment sections. The law (in stand your ground states) is pretty clear that when you are in immediate bodily threat you are perfectly within your rights to defend yourself, PROPORTIONALLY. A stranger running up to you aggressively, entering your personal space meets that criteria because you just have to have reasonable belief that person is about to harm you lmfao. Idk why people think you have to wait until the aggressive stranger puts their hands on you. 🤷🏼‍♂️

First off, you need to say, “get back” repeatedly as they come towards you and get into a defensive posture while moving back and moving to the side (if possible). I’d also be looking for an exit and watching their hands for a knife or weapon. Look for something to put between you and them. If they close the distance, kick them in the nuts, elbow them, cup your hand and clap their ear, or push them if you think you can. Then run towards higher ground or cover and ask for someone to call 911 or help. If you’re looking at this and thinking that’s not necessary, then you probably shouldn’t attack them. Our subconscious minds can differentiate a threat from a feint better than our conscious minds. The verbal command helps justify your actions in court and your positioning and quick violent action helps you gain your advantage. You should never stay once you have a chance to leave the dangerous situation because that increases you risk and makes defense in court harder later. Don’t lie to cops afterwards and it’s better if you don’t talk to them at all. Don’t be a dick about it, but say that you are going to use your fifth amendment right AND that you are glad that you are safe in that moment. That signals you don’t look at them like an aggressor which makes them less likely to escalate the situation beyond where it’s at.
