I would ask your physical therapist and your surgeon for clarification because resting for 16 weeks for a standard ankle ligament reconstruction is very outdated. Movement is limited for the first 2-3 weeks to let the surgical site heal but modern orthopedic medicine favors accelerated rehabilitation. And keeping it completely immobilized and weightless for 16 weeks can cause severe muscle wasting, joint stiffness and delayed tendon healing due to lack of blood flow. So I would verify that they meant absolutely no weight bearing and I’d verify that the muscle wasting will also be addressed in physical therapy

Hey. Respectful question here. Is your dr concerned on how you will heal and your physical health considering your diagnosis and being bed ridden? How does he feel about you having pots and being physically impaired with a foot surgery? Do you have someone to take care of you?

Not me but my friend had to have a full knee replacement at 15 and they gave her crutches, I'm not sure if it's still the same policy or if it'll be the same at your hospital but they might! I'd ask before you go in so if not you can budget to get your own

It took me so long to get a diagnosis for my autoimmune diseases and fibromyalgia. Doctors made me feel kind of crazy. Irrespective of whether or not you can work, it sucks to be chronically ill. I hope you find relief, dear.

Ask the doctors office that’s performing the surgery. When I had surgery on my foot and needed a boot, I had to bring the boot with me to the hospital.

i’m pretty sure they do, if they don’t i’m pretty sure you can ask for them! I was in the ER for a kidney issue and i couldn’t walk well after so i had asked for a cane which they got for me! if you need to find your own, i’d say check out thrift stores around you! my local goodwill always has a couple sets of crutches, so maybe you might have some luck!

The knee scooter was my best friend. I had ankle sx 2 weeks before I started school as a teacher. I was on a knee scooter for 2 months then a boot. Insurance will provide crutches
