I used to be so embarrassed to eat in public at my bigger size. As if just because I was obese, I didn’t still need to eat food. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I assumed people were thinking, “Does she really need to eat that?” or “Have some self-control.” or “No wonder she’s that big.” Did I think about what others were thinking of me more than they were actually thinking of me? Most likely. But the truth is, there are people thinking those things. And now, after enduring thousands of unkind comments here, I’m more sure of that than ever. But it’s so silly to think a fat person shouldn’t be eating. We all need food to survive and to nourish our bodies, no matter how big our body might already be. The freedom I feel while eating in public now doesn’t just come from being in a smaller body. Because honestly, I still feel “big” compared to many others. But that body dysmorphia talk is for another time. 🙈 It comes from being confident in the choices I’m making to take care of my body. And no, this doesn’t just mean I’m confident eating a salad or grilled chicken in public (neither of these can be found in the clips above 😂). It comes from knowing I do eat healthy, even if I also eat foods that aren’t beneficial for me. It comes from knowing I move my body because it feels good. It comes from knowing I care about my health in every way, and the life I live represents that. I refuse to feel embarrassed while eating in public anymore, no matter what the food is or what I look like while eating it. Shame doesn’t have a seat at my table now. And anyone who is judgmental of someone (of any size) eating in public… is probably just hungry. 😉
