@nofret_egypt_: The rock-cut tombs of El Kab, on the east bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt, belong mainly to the 18th Dynasty and provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Egypt’s provincial elite. Carved into the cliffs above the ancient city of Nekheb, they include the tombs of powerful officials such as Ahmose, son of Ibana, a naval commander who served under several early 18th-Dynasty kings. Their wall paintings and inscriptions combine scenes of daily life, offerings, banquets, hunting and warfare with detailed autobiographical texts. Particularly remarkable is Ahmose’s account of his military career and participation in the expulsion of the Hyksos.
