The Imperial Crypt houses just over 140 coffins and sarcophagi, including several urns containing the hearts of emperors and empresses of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The double sarcophagus of Marie Antoinette’s parents was commissioned by Empress Maria Theresa herself, so that she could remain united with her beloved husband, Emperor Francis Stephen of Lorraine, even after death.

I love France so much. Everything about their history is so ornate, whether good or bad. Marie Antionette wasn’t bad tho, she was just raised to be a queen… a woman of her status was doomed if she ever stepped away from the status quo.
