The ‘why’ is relevant, you can desire a conventional/“trad” wife or a “trad” husband without it necessarily being patriarchal. Coincidentally aligning, in some aspect, with patriarchal norms isn’t patriarchal inherently; The provider preference is benign when It remains a preference and becomes harmful when imposed onto others/ becomes some expectation/gender norm.

i agree with you, but I think one thing I'll say is that I think this is how it's always been. women who actually want to be free from patriarchy have always been a minority and I think we're just seeing that divide finally becoming clear via the internet and social media

I think there are men who are too into 50/50 because they want to stick it to women and feminists and those guys are red flags but if a man suggests or assumes 50/50 without making a big thing of it thats so normal and we all need a little perspective

I always wonder what the women who agree with this type of rhetoric have to say about the patriarchy. It's incongruous to curse the patriarchy and hate the concept of 50/50, but I actually rarely see women outright say they like the patriarchal society we have. Do they think the man providing is somehow actually matriarchal?

Of course you would prefer a man pay on the first date. Men would prefer not to have to pay on the first date either. The problem with that expectation is that men are basically paying to date women, most of whom they'll NEVER see again. Yeah, not doing that personally.

I think it just depends on the why, right? For example, you can be promoting the man paying as an enforcement or reinforcement of patriarchal standards where the man pays because it's his job and the woman is not because it's not her traditional place to do so. However, a lot of radical feminists may be against 50/50 because men and women are fundamentally unequal in society because of things like the wage gap, unequal risks involved with dating, expectations around how you are supposed to look, and how much you are expected to invest in your appearance etc. While this may not be the best solution, there is convergence between patriarchal norms and extreme feminism but the logic is completely different. I do agree with you that this media is harmful. I think it's just an example of how we can't really have equality among the deceased in a capitalist society.

Not hating 50/50 is honestly better for dating for me. I have a job and can buy my own food and so I will only be going if they add good company not just free food. I appreciate being paid for as a nice gesture not because I expect it

My mom told me that before her and my dad got divorced he would complain that she looked angry all the time. After she secretly got Botox in her forehead he stopped complaining 😭😭 It made me laugh and I guess helped her, but this still is such a weird concept

I'll die 50/50 because I believe a woman can do anything a man can. she can absolutely change a car tire, it takes minutes. she can pay for bills, that's being an adult. she can take her man out on dates, that's love. he can cook and clean up after her too, it's nice. he can do laundry and grocery shopping like why tf are we putting tasks in gender boxes? he can handle picking up kids from school, dentist appointments too. she can stop shaving and grow out arm hair. he can wear pink or shave his legs. they don't want equality, there is so much shit traditional relationships have ruined because they convince everyone to stay in gender roles.
