I think that maybe we get dust because redstone is less hard than diamond, lapis and amethyst so it’s just becomes dust after breaking it

I think redstone is just too brittle to be mined without being pulverized into a powder, presumably because it's more brittle than the stone encasing it

I remember this animated series called minecraft for noobs and instead of dust they interperated it as a ruby looking gemstone and when placing it down it was like chalk and I love that interpertation
