@itscassieblanko: Hair brushing can be incredibly uncomfortable for special needs children because of sensory sensitivities. Before you judge a child’s reaction, remember: what feels minor to you may feel unbearable to them. #autismawareness #autism #specialneeds
Why not let him have shorter cut? Easier to maintain and brush

As an autistic adult that had trouble with my hair (and still do 😓) brushing from the tip to scalp makes it 100x easier and less painful! Also styles like braids keep my hair protected and saves me from needing to brush it constantly. You’re doing great 🥰

autism doesn’t mean a child can’t learn boundaries, accountability, empathy, and appropriate behavior.

to those asking why discipline someone with a disability, people with autism know what they're doing and appropriate boundaries are essential. they are capable of learning that there are consequences to their actions. Part of the reason he's acting like this is because he knows you will give up, and that's what he wants. yes it's uncomfortable but it's necessary for their health. when he bites or hits, sit him down for a timeout. explain that he is not being nice or safe and to take time to think about it, and that no matter what the hair will be brushed. do that as many times as needed. do not let him push you around! just an idea as everyone is different. it took me almost a year of consistency to start seeing a change in behavior. also would recommend a different brush and work from the bottom up, textured hair can be such a pain.

You need an Un-brush and he needs a hair cut. As an Ausome mom, I try to eliminate as many anxiety issues that cause aggression as possible. This isn't a fight worth fighting.
