Christian Craighead served for more than 28 years in the British Army, including a long career with the Parachute Regiment and the elite 22 Special Air Service (22 SAS). Throughout his military service, he specialized in counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, special reconnaissance, and high-risk direct action operations. His professionalism and composure under pressure earned him widespread respect within the special operations community. Craighead began his military career by joining the Parachute Regiment, where he completed the demanding Basic Parachute Course (P Company) and qualified as a British military parachutist. During his years with the Paras, he gained extensive operational experience before volunteering for the Special Air Service (SAS) selection process. He successfully passed the notoriously difficult SAS Selection, which included endurance marches across the Brecon Beacons, navigation exercises, jungle warfare training, escape-and-evasion training, resistance-to-interrogation exercises, and continuation training before becoming a Trooper in 22 SAS. During his time in the regiment, he deployed on numerous classified operations supporting the United Kingdom's counter-terrorism and overseas security missions. Much of his operational history remains officially undisclosed. Christian Craighead became internationally known for his actions during the DusitD2 complex terrorist attack in Nairobi, Kenya, on 15 January 2019. While off duty and attending a nearby training event, he immediately responded after hearing reports of the attack. Carrying only his personal equipment, he entered the hotel complex alongside Kenyan security personnel and began assisting civilians trapped inside the buildings. Working with remarkable speed and determination, Craighead repeatedly entered dangerous areas to guide civilians to safety while coordinating with Kenyan special operations officers. According to official accounts and interviews, more than 700 civilians were ultimately evacuated from the complex during the operation, with Craighead personally helping numerous hostages reach safety during the early stages before additional security forces fully secured the scene. His calm leadership and decisive actions helped save many lives and became one of the defining moments of the response. Following the Nairobi operation, Craighead received international recognition for his bravery. In 2019, Queen Elizabeth II awarded him the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross (CGC), one of the United Kingdom's highest decorations for gallantry in the presence of the enemy. He also received high-level recognition from the Republic of Kenya for his role during the rescue operation. After retiring from the British Army, Christian Craighead founded Lone Operator, a security and training company that provides executive protection, crisis management, firearms instruction, and leadership training. He regularly appears on military and law-enforcement podcasts, including interviews with Shawn Ryan, where he discusses leadership, resilience, the realities of special operations, and lessons learned throughout his career. He also continues to support charitable initiatives benefiting veterans and first responders while sharing his experience through public speaking and professional training programs. Known worldwide by the nickname
