I live in Australia and I’m an Aussie and I am highly invested in what you are speaking on in parliament! I love your passion, I think culture and pride in heritage is so so important but I agree with you there are people homeless, unemployed and just outright fighting to survive and that should be important!! I wish there was parliament members here as passionate about doing what’s right

you spoke in English because you had no other option. if you hadn’t spoken in English, the people who needed to hear it wouldn’t have been able to understand a word. why don’t they get this 🤣 English might be the only way YOU can communicate with THEM, but it’s not the only way other people can communicate with you! it’s a skill issue on THEIR part. you are a legend. signed from a monolinguist currently learning Spanish to try and correct the shortcomings of my upbringing and Anglocentric society !!!

I'm white and I prefer english, because its a language that has use around the world. I also like learning other languages, many of those also have uses around the world. I spent a decent amount of time (by my own choice because noone forced me to) to pick Japanese to go deeper into. I've even learnt a "dead" language (Latin) at school just to get good marks. my issue with forcing time on it is purely practical. it sets kids up for nothing. I do like te Rao staying around and all that, and being a valid option to learn if people choose, but let's be real about where it stands. its a niche language.
