One time my grad school professor basically said that we shouldn’t be avoiding unpaid internships because “we think we’re too good for them”. As if we could afford to work for free while paying for school, food, rent, etc. in a very expensive city. The assumption that grad students don’t have work for the years they’re in school is insane.

This is so relatable for teachers as well, you have to save up to do full time student teaching that is unpaid. And even then some still work nights.
