Hi! 👋 I went through this myself, so I wanted to share my experience. About a year after getting my Mirena IUD, I went to have it removed because my husband and I wanted to try for our second child. The doctor told me they couldn’t find it and assumed it had fallen out during a heavy period. They said I should have no problem conceiving. Time went by, and I still wasn’t getting pregnant. My partner and I even started wondering if we were dealing with fertility issues. Eventually, I went to another doctor for a second opinion. He checked as well and also couldn’t find the IUD. I decided to start taking fertility supplements, and not long after, I finally got pregnant. Around six weeks into the pregnancy, I started feeling very unwell. I began bleeding and had extremely painful cramps. I went to the ER twice. The first time, I was told it was too early in the pregnancy and that my symptoms were normal, so they sent me home. The second time, my bleeding became much heavier. I also had diarrhea and other concerning symptoms. That’s when they discovered that my left fallopian tube had ruptured because the pregnancy had implanted there. I needed emergency surgery, and my left fallopian tube had to be removed. After the surgery, the doctor asked me, “You never told me you had a Mirena IUD?” I was shocked and told him that I had been told by two different doctors that it was no longer there. He explained that they could have done a CT scan to locate it. Instead, the IUD had migrated and become embedded elsewhere inside me. It was still there, still releasing hormones, and he believed it contributed to my ectopic pregnancy. He even showed me a photo of exactly where he found it during surgery. After everything that happened, I truly believed I would never be able to have children again. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. By the grace of God, I went on to have two healthy children—a boy and a girl. That experience happened with the Mirena IUD. I decided to continue seeing the surgeon who performed my emergency surgery because he earned my trust. I now have a Kyleena IUD that was placed by him, and I have it checked regularly to make sure it hasn’t migrated. Get a CT scan!

You have a BAD obgyn!! I work obgyn. Next step would be ultrasound to make sure it’s still in the uterus. After it’s confirmed it’s in there and it didn’t fall out (bc if can). They can do it without anesthesia. You can ask if you can do nitrous gas and numbing with lidocaine to help with pain management.

Why didn’t they do an ultrasound to see if they could see it? Why would you be doing exploratory surgery if they’re not even sure if it’s even there

This happened to me and it was surgically removed…honestly I think it was worse to have a foreign object in me … it caused trauma to my uterus and I couldn’t keep a pregnancy after… I lost 4 in total… eventually did have a rainbow baby
