Let me assure you, after being her mom for 10 years and helping her overcome fears about her eye for 7 of those years, I know when my child will be negatively affected by things. Also, if you think her putting her eye in on the internet is the most traumatic part of her story, bless your hearts. But for those supporting her and ones with questions, here's another snippet and some more of her story. Robin lost vision in her left eye a week after her third birthday. Our rooster, who had never shown signs of aggression, jumped up and spurred her in the eye, thinking he was protecting his hens. We rushed her to the nearest ER where they started pain meds and antibiotics before ambulancing her to the nearest children's hospital. By the grace of God, the pediatric ophthalmologist on call was already at the hospital finishing another case when we arrived. He immediately took her back for surgery. She had a ruptured globe and her lens was nowhere to be found. We chose not to remove the eye right away. After another procedure and an exploratory surgery at Duke, it was determined she would likely never get vision back. Her real eye was shrunken and caused her discomfort in wearing her then prosthetic.
