These are 5 things I'm genuinely embarrassed to admit after 3 years in digital marketing. Not necessarily because they happened…but because of what they revealed about myself and how I thought this whole online income thing would play out. Here we go…😳 1️⃣ I thought I'd be a millionaire within a year. I bought into the idea that success was supposed to happen fast and when it didn’t, I assumed I was the problem. ✅ Real online businesses are built through learning and then fine tuning your skills over time. Your start will not look like someone else’s finish line…and that’s ok. 2️⃣ I shared side hustles I wasn't even sure worked. Ugggh - this one still makes me cringe. I thought that's what "digital marketing" was. Share a side hustle, then point people in the direction of digital or affiliate marketing. It was a full on bait and switch that I’m not proud of. ✅ You don't build trust by sharing ways to make income online that don’t even work. You build trust by truly helping someone solve a problem. 3️⃣ It took me 14 months to earn my first $2 commission. Yep...Two dollars. At the time, it felt like proof I wasn't cut out for this. Looking back, it was proof that I hadn't learned the right skills yet. ✅ Don't measure your progress by your first commission. Measure it by the skills you're building. Skills compound long after commissions do. 4️⃣ I let my online business determine my self-worth. A good day meant I felt confident. A bad day meant I questioned everything about myself. It was exhausting. ✅ Your business will have highs and lows. Your identity shouldn't rise and fall with it. 5️⃣ I waited 3 months to post my first piece of content. Everything else was ready - My system. My automated emails. But I was terrified of being seen. I kept telling myself I needed to learn or tweak just one more thing first. ✅ Confidence doesn't come before action. It grows because of it. If there's one thing I wish someone had taught me from the beginning, it's this: 👉🏽 Your journey in the online space will probably look nothing like you expect it to and that’s actually the best part.
