Dr Erin I am so grateful for you! I'm coming up to the time where I have to start figuring out who I will be asking for letters for From grad school and the whole thing has made me feel icky and knowing that professors enjoy doing it and or it's part of their job is so reassuring

Unrelated! but have you seen sociolinguistics be implemented in clinical psych research? is it even possible? i’m really interested in these two areas but im unsure how to bridge them (besides doing psycholinguistics haha, but that’s not rlly clinical)

I had a really unique circumstance where I contacted an undergrad professor. I was doing some research at work on a very specific topic, and was hunting down citations from publications. One of the citations was my former professor’s dissertation. I emailed him about my full-circle moment, and was able to share some of the applications of his research 30 years ago! There are whole other dissertations written on the theories my professor posited in his research

question! I'm currently doing a masters, and am considering doing a phd in future, but I might go and work in industry for a few years. Should I ask for letters of reccomendation when I graduate, or contact the professors when I start applying to phd programs later?

I agree - however on of the best things I can also recommend is that you want to have a very high level (or draft) SOP to offer/share with the professors. It is always hard when you be been out of school for a few years, but sharing why you are reaching out to them, how their letter would benefit your package etc is always a great idea and tends to lead to better letters (in my opinion)
