and the death count does count the 100s of the Sherpa people who are also killed being guides to those rich people and rescuers. companies will exploit indigenous people and pay them less because its cheaper than paying "professional climbers and guides". And because those companies are based in the US and UK, they refuse to adhere to local law and pleas and they get away with it.

Unfun fact: There are roughly 200 bodies up there. Some have been used over the years as guide posts for other hikers. What a gross and weird place to want to go.

I was literally just telling someone how dumb it is that their friend thought "climbing Mount Everest" last year was such an accomplishment. It's not, it's lame and just a way to show off your wealth and lack of awareness.

Your opinion. Not mine. Just because some people are not doing it right does not mean it’s not worth doing. Just do it right. Don’t leave trash. Take a valid guide. Etc. the only way to fix things is not to quit but push for it to be done well/correctly. Maybe the country should regulate climbing licensed to have money to clean the trash.

My old boss went to Everest but he didn’t climb the mountain, he just hiked around and saw villages and yaks and ate great food and had amazing views of the mountain without going up it

My husband seriously thought about climbing Mount Everest and I immediately asked him how much was his life insurance policy again? He stopped bringing it up after that.
