A group representing relatives of 9/11 victims is calling on organizers to exclude New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani from the 25th-anniversary commemoration at Ground Zero, describing him as an “unwelcome guest” and raising concerns about his public record and affiliations. As of July 26, the petition had gathered more than 6,500 verified signatures. According to the New York Post, at least 300 signatories had identified themselves as relatives of 9/11 victims at the time of publication. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum has emphasized that the annual ceremony is intentionally kept free from politics. Mamdani’s office, however, says the mayor still intends to attend to pay tribute to the victims’ families, survivors and first responders.
