@themickeybell: “Our daughter wouldn’t be welcomed at our church…” Those words actually came out of a couple’s mouth after a funeral. They asked if they could recommend MY church to their daughter… because, in their words, “she wouldn’t be welcomed at our church.” I stood there thinking… Then why are YOU still going there? Sometimes we forget that church isn’t supposed to be a museum for perfect people. It’s supposed to be a hospital for hurting people. Every one of us has needed grace, mercy, and a second chance at some point. Now don’t worry… I found plenty of humor in the conversation (because that’s what I do), but underneath the laughs is a question worth asking: If the people who know us best don’t think our church would welcome someone they love… what does that say?

I know of a few churches in my community that REQUIRE a background check before you can become a member. Yeah, they are a country club with Sunday morning member meetings, not a church that worships God.

We have a deputy sheriff at our church and he was running background checks on people on the down low for his own personal knowing and then talk smack about them behind their back if there was anything to tell🤣
