@innerworldtherapy: What Most People Get Wrong about 6.5 Year Olds: Tricky Behaviors Explained by Child Development and Psychology. 6.5 is notorious for the perfectionism first trap: the child wants to be perfect AND first, so they rush, then their work is sloppy so they are self critical, and then their cycle repeats. However, it is super cute to see how affectionate and silly they can be! This is our last video for half ages! 7 is next and it’s a doozy! #childdevelopment #childpsychology #mindfulparenting #kindergarten #firstgrade
anxiously awaiting 7 because what the heck is going on

How do we build them up and work on confidence? Mine doesn't want to fail so he won't try because he thinks he can't do it or gives up after one try if it's not perfect. I can praise and praise for even trying and it's not helping.

This was really helpful - my 6.5 yr old daughter HATES anything she perceives as criticism, even just a gentle ‘please don’t do that’ is met with either ‘I’m not’ (when she very clearly is!) and/or tears or strong emotional reactions because she feels like she’s wrong and hates it. Really good to know this is pretty normal behaviour!

What if it seems your child is on the extreme end of these behaviors? The video describes my child, but it appears to affect her more deeply than others her age. She also really struggles with resilience and flexibility. It is hard to know what is 'normal' and what needs possible intervention.

Any thoughts on a 6.5 year old who hits when he gets mad/frustrated? I am coming to my wits end with this.

Is this also around the time where I’d be able to decipher “normal” kid behaviors vs adhd?? She’s my first and only and idk the difference 😭😭

Soooo much perfectionism and stress over not being first. It’s so hard to watch. But he’s also the sweetest and has become so much more intellectual.

Do you have any videos that talk about anxiety in young kids and what’s “normal” and what is cause for concern?

My 6.75 yr old is hilarious but also so so so difficult. Arguing, real sassy and hates being told what to do.

My oldest is nearly 6.5 and the biggest issue is that he's soooo anxious about his flu shot. He's been worried about it for months but its ramping up because he knows he gets it a little bit after school starts. Nothing I've said has really soothed this concern and to be honest, I'm getting frustrated because I hear about the flu shot once a day lol

Oh the little comedian starting. 🙄 We’re teaching the difference between being funny, being mean, etc. “If you’re laughing or saying something that someone says they don’t like and you continue, that’s mean. Not funny.” He’s really receptive to hearing that though so it so sweet to see him learn.

My 6.5 year old is the sweetest boy, but we definitely are starting to see issues with fibbing and having a hard time listening or just lack of focus. Is that common for most 6.5 year olds?

Would children with adhd follow the same age guidelines? I read somewhere that their maturity is behind so a 6 year old might behave like a 4 year old
