I was facing the same existential crisis last year and was super burnt out. I eventually grew out of it and found other things to do to keep myself busy, but ER burn out is REAL.

Make work the least interesting thing about you. Find fun hobbies, and schedule things each month that you have wanted to try. Experiences etc.

I feel this but someone told me sometimes you have to enjoy the present and if that’s meditating, finding a new hobby or just being more present in the moment cause younger you has been setting goals constantly and now you just need to enjoy but you’ve never done that before so it’s time to figure that part out :)

It’s because medicine is relentless!! so emotionally taxing overstimulating but in a sneaky chronic slow rate. I feel you I feel like I always have to change things up or re- stimulate myself to medicine tbh like literally if it’s just even getting new pens, new planner, new fun things for my office. It’s like you have to distract yourself or just start being sarcastic and joking around like me when I feel like I get burnt out I start playing pranks on my coworkers lmao 🙃🥲

As a PA student, I appreciate this pov. So much pressure so much go go go and for what… it will all work out. Also wanted to share, God is the only one who can fill that void. Everything in this world changes yet He remains the same

I’ve been an emergency medicine PA for right at 2 years now, I’ve recently accepted a job in Interventional Pain Management. Don’t get me wrong, I love EM but burn out is real. I will be staying PRN but since accepting my new job I’ve felt so much lighter!

I’m in the same boat. The constant decision making and lack of down time is exhausting. I also can’t help but feel like I’m missing out on life.

This is so relatable. It’s funny how finally feeling content can almost feel uncomfortable after spending so long chasing the next thing.

Me in urgent care after 3 years (was burnt, barely any help/soloing 50-60). Now I teach full time and still do UC PRN and it’s totally helped me rediscover my love for medicine and so eager to relearn and teach
