So interesting you post this. My daughter was two years in deep mental health psychosis with suicidal ideation and actual attempts. We did care up to residential settings. I continued to ask for a med review and change and was continuously told I’m not the dr. I too asked for a brain scan and was told if she needed one, she would have had one already. In one year, we had 3 residential treatments, 8 in/ out of behavioral settings. Continuous calls for cops support to our home. No one would help. I BEGGED every resource available to help us. Eventually, a new treatment center actually listened to me and asked me my input. After a 90 day stay, complete med change, she’s been home 90 days of peace we have been missing for years. When you live this, it is the scariest thing you’ll ever go through.

Agree! We used to hear more about brain imbalance/chemistry. At some point in last 20 years drs just continue throwing every antidepressant at patients. Why try 6 different SSRI’s? Pointless

Someone should look at her symptoms prior to taking any meds and ask if she was suffering from narcissistic abuse, and possibly not PPD.

what do you mean by “look at her brain”? is there a brain scan or imaging that you can look at and see what the problem is? very curious i’m a nurse and never knew this was a thing!

I had postpartum thyroiditis which triggered postpartum psychosis.. I had no idea what was happening to me until I was diagnosed on my third child. The medical community is definitely lacking in searching for the correct diagnosis and treatment

I hate this whole industry only because no provider takes the time to run tests, do scans, before starting any medication that involves the brain. They just guess and wait and see what the patient says at check up. And yes, I get it, our medical system makes it almost impossible to do these kinds of tests.

As someone who works in the mental health field why isn’t looking at the brain normal practice? In my experience it is just trial and error with with prescribing medication?
