@archiesekhar: July 31, Situational Awareness and the Margin Call. Citidel buys public holdings of Leopold Aschenbrenner's AI hedge fund. #ai #stockmarket #financialliteracy #moneyhackstiktokcontest #fyp
So investors panicked and created an entire market sell-off because of these two greedy companies! They should be investigated by the SEC!

It’s just similar to housing market in 2005-06 when the price is up too high so borrowing requires no down and can be financed 100%, when the market crashed in 2006 housing market sinking, all houses have negative equity so bank required deposit and no one can sell houses which ended up in foreclosures.

You are referring to Leopold Aschenbrenner, a former OpenAI researcher who founded the AI-focused hedge fund Situational Awareness LP.
His fund collapsed after heavily leveraged bets on AI infrastructure (like chips and hardware) and short positions on software stocks unraveled, prompting prime brokers—including Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan—to issue sudden margin calls.
To satisfy those margin calls, the fund was forced to liquidate its entire $16 billion public equity portfolio in a single block trade at fire-sale prices to Ken Griffin’s Citadel. While theories allege Wall Street banks orchestrated a squeeze against his leveraged positions, market analysts attribute the downfall to extreme concentration, ~4x leverage, and sharp unexpected reversals in AI hardware and software stocks. The fund retains its ~$5 billion private stake in Anthropic.

so two things one i do margin lending all the time and i get margin calls all the time but i ususlly get a few days to bring my portfolio up before they sell some of my positions so why not here, two they only should be losing what the value of what it takes to satisfy that margin call not everything so doesnt sound right here?

I used margin to buy Micron. But I also had a married put strategy on two thirds of my position because I'm trying to catch a falling knife. Sure, it dampens the potential gains, but it's the only reason I didn't get margined out. Gotta hedge risk properly.
