Оно нагревает поверхность Мирового океана, рек, озёр и даже влажную почву, заставляя молекулы воды переходить в газообразное состояние — водяной пар. Этот лёгкий пар поднимается вверх вместе с потоками тёплого воздуха. Чем выше, тем холоднее. На определённой высоте (в слое конденсации) пар остывает настолько, что превращается обратно в жидкость, оседая на мельчайших частицах пыли, сажи или солей, которые всегда присутствуют в атмосфере. Так рождаются облака. Но облако — это ещё не дождь. Внутри него капли имеют микроскопический размер и свободно парят. Чтобы начался дождь, капли должны вырасти примерно в миллион раз по объёму. Этот рост происходит двумя путями: 1. Слияние (коалесценция): Мелкие капли сталкиваются с крупными и поглощают их, постепенно набирая критическую массу. 2. Ледяной процесс (в высоких облаках): В морозных верхних слоях вода замерзает в кристаллики льда. Эти кристаллы растут быстрее капель и, когда становятся слишком тяжелыми, начинают падать. По пути вниз, в тёплые слои, они тают и превращаются в дождевые капли. Когда сила тяжести начинает превышать силу восходящих потоков воздуха и сопротивление воздуха, капли покидают облако. Так начинается дождь.
